All species have been available and our Penzance shop has had some lesser seen species in over the past week including langoustines and also some line-caught gilthead bream!
Whilst most sectors of the local fishery are reporting good catches it is worrying to report that the line-caught mackerel fishery off St.Ives is really struggling to get going this year. Speaking to some of the St.Ives fishermen, they are reporting that it is the worst season down there in living memory. Prices for mackerel on the fish market are reflecting this scarce supply with some mornings seeing mackerel make more money than turbot for example!
A very good blog to follow, especially regards the St.Ives small boat fishery, is run by a long time friend of ours and can be found by visiting http://www.stivesfishing.com
